This framed appliqué textile was handstitched in Kutch, Gujarat and depicts the traditional Indian board game 'chopad'. It has been mounted on linen mountboard. The bespoke walnut frame with maple spline details is handcrafted in London from FSC-certified wood and features Artglass which is designed to reduce glare and reflections while filtering 70% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. 

Story

One of the oldest and most renowned crafts in Gujarat, appliqué involves layering patches of fabric in a variety of shapes and colours to create unique works of art. This piece includes blockprint and natural dye textile fragments depicting the game Chopad (also known as Chaupaur/Chopat). Chopad is a traditional Indian game that has existed since the 15th century and is not dissimilar to Ludo. The frame is handcrafted in London by our experienced team of artists and makers who are skilled in carpentry, painting, sculpture and art conservation. Hardwood timber is milled to our house profiles and the frames are chopped, joined and sanded by hand.

This artwork comes with D-rings and cord fixings. Screws and wall plugs are not included. Hanging instructions will be provided on purchase.

Care & Longevity

It's best to keep your frame out of sunlight, away from heat sources and areas with fluctuating humidity and temperatures. To clean, we advise using a small amount of ammonia-free glass cleaner and a soft, lint-free cloth.
