Handwoven on a pedal loom in Oaxaca, the vibrant hues of this wool rug are a result of indigo dyeing. The central motif is typical of Zapotec culture and a symbol of the indigenous agave plant that is so significant in the area.

Story

These handwoven rugs are sourced from an inspirational cooperative of Zapotec women who have forever changed the face of weaving in the small village of Teotitlán del Valle. Historically a craft reserved only for men, these women weave rugs on traditional pedal looms – in many cases, as a way of emancipation from difficult home environments. They hand dye the yarn with dyes created from local plants, a tradition that is becoming only scarcer.

Care & Longevity

You can hoover this rug as normal. If you are going to wash it, we recommend dry cleaning, although washing separately on a cold handwash setting should suffice..
