Handwoven by members of a women’s cooperative in Oaxaca, the vibrant hues of these wool rugs are a result of cochineal, an ancient dye that is derived from cactus-eating insects.
This product is also available in green.

Story

These handwoven natural dye rugs are sourced from an inspirational cooperative of Zapotec women who have forever changed the face of weaving in the small village of Teotitlán del Valle. Historically a craft reserved only for men, these women weave rugs on traditional pedal looms – in many cases, as a way of emancipation from difficult home environments. They hand dye the yarn with dyes created from local plants, a tradition that is danger of dying out.

Care & Longevity

You can hoover this rug as normal. If you are going to wash it, we recommend dry cleaning, although washing separately on a cold handwash setting should suffice..
